FAQs
Thinking about booking a treatment but have a few questions? Below you’ll find answers to some of the most common questions about sports massage, deep tissue massage and mobile appointments. If you can’t find what you’re looking for, feel free to get in touch.
Sports massage is a specialised form of massage therapy that focuses on muscles and other soft tissues of the body. Using specific techniques, treatment is tailored to the individual and may help manage muscle tension, stiffness and discomfort associated with sport, exercise, work and everyday life.
Although commonly used by athletes and active individuals, sports massage can benefit anyone experiencing tight, tired or overworked muscles.
Not at all. Despite the name, sports massage isn’t just for athletes. Many clients book treatment to help with muscle tension, stiffness and aches caused by work, poor posture, gardening, exercise or the demands of everyday life. Whether you’re active, spend long hours at a desk or simply want to feel more comfortable in your body, sports massage can be tailored to your individual needs.
Sports massage and deep tissue massage share many of the same techniques and both can use firm pressure. Sports massage is often more focused on specific muscles, areas of tension and individual concerns, while deep tissue massage is generally aimed at relieving deeper muscle tightness and discomfort.
Sports massage can sometimes feel uncomfortable when working on areas of tension or tightness, but it should never feel unbearable. Treatment is always tailored to your comfort level, and pressure can be adjusted at any time throughout the session.
Your first appointment will begin with a short consultation where we’ll discuss your health, lifestyle and any areas of concern. This helps me understand your needs and ensure the treatment is tailored to you. You’ll also have the opportunity to ask any questions before treatment begins.
Comfortable clothing is recommended. Depending on the area being treated, you may be asked to remove some clothing, but only the area being worked on needs to be accessible. Towels will be used throughout the treatment to ensure your comfort and privacy.
Some people experience mild soreness after a sports massage, particularly if muscles were very tight before treatment. This is completely normal and usually settles within 24 to 48 hours. Drinking plenty of water and keeping gently active can help.
This depends on your lifestyle, activity levels and individual needs. Some clients book regular treatments as part of their wellbeing routine, while others prefer to book when they feel tension, stiffness or discomfort building up.
Yes. All new clients are asked to complete a consultation form before their first treatment. This includes details about your medical history, current symptoms, medication, previous injuries, and anything else that may affect your treatment.
This helps me make sure your massage is safe, appropriate, and tailored to your individual needs. In some cases, I may recommend speaking to your GP or healthcare professional before treatment, especially if you have an existing medical condition, recent surgery, or any concerns about whether massage is suitable for you.
While many clients feel the benefits of sports massage, results can vary from person to person and cannot be guaranteed.
This depends on the type and stage of your injury. Massage is not always appropriate immediately after an injury occurs. Following an assessment, I’ll advise when treatment is suitable and tailor your massage accordingly.
A maintenance massage is a regular treatment designed to keep muscles healthy, reduce tension before it becomes a problem, and help you continue doing the activities you enjoy. Rather than waiting until you’re in pain, regular massage can help keep your body moving comfortably and may reduce the risk of recurring muscular issues.
It’s a good idea to stay well hydrated after your treatment, as you would after any physical activity. Drinking water supports your general wellbeing and recovery.
Trigger points are small, tight areas within a muscle that can be tender to touch and may refer pain to other parts of the body. Sports massage techniques can help reduce their sensitivity and improve muscle function.
Wear whatever you’re most comfortable in. Loose-fitting clothing is ideal, especially if you’re having a sports massage. Depending on the area being treated, you may be asked to remove some clothing, but you’ll always be appropriately covered with towels, and only the area being worked on will be exposed.
This varies depending on your lifestyle, activity levels and goals. Many clients benefit from a treatment every 4–6 weeks, while those training regularly or managing ongoing muscular issues may prefer more frequent appointments.
Please provide at least 24 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or rearrange your appointment.
Appointments cancelled with less than 24 hours’ notice may be charged 50% of the treatment cost.
Appointments cancelled with less than 12 hours’ notice, or missed without notice, may be charged the full treatment fee.
I understand that genuine emergencies happen and these will always be considered with discretion.
Whether you’re recovering from injury, living with muscle tension, or simply looking to move more freely, I’m here to help.
